North Bay Self Storage in Petaluma, Calif., is acting as a donation drop-off to assist those affected by California’s current wildfire. Property manager Sara Caudill came up with idea after reading about the fire on Facebook.
“All I saw were people in Petaluma talking about the fire and asking, ‘Where can we take stuff?’ I called our property owner and told him Petaluma needed a drop-off location. We have the room,” Caudill told the source.
The property at 720 Southpoint Blvd. has received many donations, so much so that Caudill is having trouble finding a place to store it all. “I was expecting one truckload. That tripled in 24 hours,” she said. On Sunday, Caudill’s husband dropped off items at the Clearlake Senior Center in nearby Clearlake.
The blaze, which ignited in Lake County on Sept. 12 and quickly spread to Napa and Sonoma Counties, has destroyed more than 67,000 acres of land, 585 homes and hundreds of other structures, according to one source. An estimated 13,000 residents remained displaced by evacuation. California’s four-year drought and extreme summer heat have helped the fire spread quickly. As of Tuesday evening, firefighters had managed to contain about 30 percent of the flames, the source reported.
North Bay Self Storage is a green-certified business that features solar panels. It also offers U-Haul truck and trailer rentals.
