Cascade Self Storage in Medford, Ore., recently hosted two events as part of the Janette Krook Memorial Dog Wash and Barbecue, which benefited the Southern Oregon Humane Society (SOHS). A July 23 event was held at the storage operator’s 2562 W. Main St. facility, while an Aug. 27 fundraiser was held at 1011 Narregan St. Each four-hour event offered breakfast burritos and barbecue.
Cascade Self Storage has hosted the memorial event since it was launched six years ago and regularly accepts donations for the charity. Named in honor of Krook, an animal lover who passed away in 2013, it’s one of the animal shelter’s biggest fundraisers, according to the source.
“It started out with just a dog wash and we had a barbecue that we threw in; and then we have a small silent auction that we do. And they’ve actually raised around $3,000 for us,” said Judi Hanstein, volunteer support manager for SOHS.
Cascade Self Storage is managed by HCA Management, a family-owned company that owns and operates manufactured-housing communities and self-storage facilities. Founded in 1964, HCA participates in a number of community and charitable events through the properties it manages, including food and toy drives as well as local sports sponsorships, according to its website.
