Amy’s Attic Self Storage, which operates six facilities in Texas, kicked off its “Amy in Education” program in December by collecting and distributing school supplies to five local elementary schools. Each facility collected dry-erase markers, erasers, notebooks, pencils and other essentials, packed them in gift boxes, and delivered them to students just before the holidays.

Property managers Chandra Howard and Lisa Sherwood delivered two boxes to Skipcha Elementary School, which is near the Amy’s Attic facility in Harker Heights. It was the first time the school had been approached by a local business looking to provide resources, according to one source.

“We are so grateful they thought of us. We think this will be a great relationship,” said Paige Gawryszewski, campus instructional specialist for Skipcha Elementary.

The goal for the Amy in Education program is to have a positive presence in local schools through donations, mentorship and teacher appreciation as well as participation in career fairs, according to a Facebook post for the company’s Harker Heights location. The facility staff met with local principals to determine how they could assist schools and make the greatest impact.

Founded in 2004, Amy’s Attic operates facilities in Belton, Copperas Cove, Harker Heights, Killeen and Temple, Texas. It supports several organizations including the local chapter of the Boy Scouts of America, the Rainbow Room, an emergency-resource center, and Operation Phantom Support, which provides assistance to military families.
