Amys Attic Self Storage in Harker Heights, TX, Hosts Craft Festival to Benefit Childrens Charity

Amy’s Attic Self Storage in Harker Heights, Texas, hosted its first craft festival on May 2 to benefit the Rainbow Room, an emergency-resource center for Bell and Coryell County Child Protective Services case workers to help them meet the critical needs of abused and neglected children. The event included more than 20 vendors offering a variety of products including baked goods and crocheted slippers. It also featured a children’s bounce house and a Sticky Bones BBQ food truck.

Amy’s Attic chose the Rainbow Room as its recipient because all proceeds would benefit children in need, Bethany Burkholder, facility manager and event chairwoman, told the source. “This year we looked for a charity that provided most of their contributions to the needy and the Rainbow Room is just that. They give away 100 percent of all contributions,” Burkholder said.

The Rainbow Room provides beds, car seats, clothing, school supplies, shoes and other necessities to children entering foster or relative care and children in their own homes who live below the poverty line.

“In addition, they give them comfort items such as blankets, toys, stuffed animals—items they need to make the transition from one place to the next successfully. They make a huge difference in the lives of little kids who are going through some really terrible things,” Burkholder said.

Amy’s Attic hoped to raise $2,000 at the event, but organizers believe they may have surpassed the goal due to the great turnout, the source reported. “People keep showing up. The kids are having a blast in the bounce house,” said Bob Varnvas, Amy’s Attic Vice President of Operations.

The Rainbow Room is sponsored by the Greater Texas Community Partners, d/b/a Giving Texas Children Promise, a nonprofit, volunteer organization whose mission is to meet the critical needs of abused and neglected children through state and local collaborations.

Founded in 2004, Amy’s Attic operates six self-storage facilities in Texas.
