Canadian operator Apple Self Storage is nearing completion on an expansion project that will add 22,000 square feet of customizable space to its 95,000-square-foot facility in downtown Toronto. The new space, comprised mainly of larger storage units, will be accessible from the main level. The project is scheduled to be completed next month.

Opened in 2003, the facility on Adelaide Street West serves Torontos downtown condo residents and business owners. The company believes the expansion will appeal to nearby residents because extra living or storage space in the city often comes at a premium price.

Many residents living in and around the downtown core, while enjoying a more fast-paced lifestyle, are forced to adjust to a downsized living arrangement after arriving from outside the city, company officials said in a press release. Self-storage lets them hold on to excess items, whether temporarily until they can find roomier accommodations, or not uncommonly, as a long-term solution.

The facility has remained open during construction. Apple Self Storage operates 15 Canadian facilities in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Ontario.
