TaxiBox, a mobile self-storage operator based in Melbourne, Australia, has launched an online video game to help increase sales. Similar to the block-stacking game Tetris, “Taxiblox” challenges players to rotate and configure falling pieces of furniture to fit inside a mobile-storage unit. Players reaching 5,000, 15,000 and 30,000 points receive $5, $20 and $50 off a reservation, respectively.
The company is using the game as a way to boost the conversion rate of online customers who request a quote. Prospects receive a link to the game along with their estimate, according to a press release. TaxiBox is also promoting the game through social media.
During play, a robot speaks words of encouragement as well as a few marketing messages. Taxiblox can be played on any Internet browser and is viewable on the TaxiBox website.
The project took nearly three months to complete and involved a team of eight people, according to Ben Cohn, director. The concept for the game was pitched in-house, and the company outsourced development, according to the release.
TaxiBox is noted for the taxi motif it uses on its trucks and storage pods. Units are wrapped in bright-yellow covers that feature black-and-white checkered striping synonymous with yellow taxi cabs. The covers also feature the company’s marketing slogan in a graphical display: “We Deliver, You Pack, We Store.”
