Fort Knox Self Storage is installing a 60-kilowatt solar-panel system on the roof of its facility in Scoresby, Melbourne, Australia. It also plans to add solar panels to its seven other sites in the city. The system, installed by solar-panel installation company Enervest, includes 240 panels and will produce 65 percent of the facility’s electricity, the source reported.
Fort Knox will recoup the investment on its first solar-panel project within four years, facilities manager Craig Shanahan told the source. He said the company is looking to reduce its carbon footprint, and solar panels are a good fit for self-storage.
Fort Knox also intends to upgrade its outdated lighting system to LED lights, Enervest Managing Director Ross Warby told the source.
Fort Knox operates eight self-storage properties in Melbourne. Amenities include a range of unit sizes, a truck and driver service, and the sale of moving and packing supplies.
