As part of its coronavirus response, Singapore self-storage operator StorHub has partnered with GoGoVan, an Asia-based, on-demand ridesharing service that specializes in transporting freight and goods in urban areas. The collaboration will give StorHub customers flexible moving and storage options while government stay-at-home restrictions are in place, according to a press release.

“As we adjust to the post-pandemic life, many families and small businesses are finding that space has become a premium in homes and places of business,” said Luigi La Tona, chief operating officer for StorHub. “Customers are looking to either increase space at home or move nonessential equipment and materials from valuable real estate at places of work as a way of reducing costs and wastage. Many are looking for self-storage alternative solutions but are hampered by a lack of transportation options to moving and storing these redundant items.”

“By moving nonessential items lying around homes to proper storage spaces and facilities, families and individuals will have the benefits of a stress-free stay indoors, as we do our part to fight through COVID-19 together,” said Patrick Wong, country manager for GoGoVan. “With more companies adopting remote working, individuals can better prepare their home office for conducive and productive work for the long run as we face a new normal.”

The Singapore government issued a set of stay-at-home restrictions on April 3, which it called a “circuit breaker,” to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus. The restrictions were eased on June 1 to coincide with a phased reopening of the nation.

“This circuit breaker in response to COVID-19 is unprecedented and definitely requires a mental shift and discipline,” La Tona said. “It is impacting all of our mental health, as we learn to cope with being home 24 hours a day. Simple tricks, including decluttering, reorganizing our home with what we want to keep, store and discard, can be extremely liberating for us and contribute significantly to a low-stress experience in managing the circuit-breaker [orders].”

Founded in 2013 and headquartered in Hong Kong, GoGoVan is an app-based logistics company that connects individuals and businesses with thousands of drivers to move freight and other goods. It has a presence in more than 300 cities in Asia, with more than 8 million registered drivers in its network.

Launched in 2003, StorHub has 12 facilities across Singapore in Bukit Batok, Changi, Hougang, Kallang, Tampines, Toa Payoh and Woodlands. Its portfolio contains more than 10,000 storage units.
