A new self-storage facility and self-serve car wash will be built in Nipomo, Calif., despite the efforts of some neighbors to ban the project. The facilities are being built on an existing strawberry field.
In a hearing last week, the county Board of Supervisors approved the 1,900-square-foot car wash and 88,127-square-foot storage facility, after the board agreed to tightly monitor water use and quality. Nipomo has been faced with a water shortage. At the suggestion of Supervisor Bruce Gibson, the board added a water-use fee for the car wash. Supervisors also agreed to meter water use and require an attendant to be on duty when the car wash is open.
