On Sept. 14, more than 400 real estate professionals went head to head in athletic events during Buchanan Storage Capitals seventh annual Challenge for Children fundraiser in Newport Beach, Calif. This years multi-sport competition raised $573,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters, Miocean Foundation, Talk About Curing Autism (TACA), and United Ways Success By 6 (SB6).
United Way received $498,000 to support its SB6 initiative in Los Angeles, Orange County and San Francisco. The other three charities each received $25,000.
The all-day event hosted 48 industry teams competing in volleyball, basketball, a kayak-run relay and a water-bike race. The Newport Beach Fire Department took home the first-place trophy, followed by The Irvine Co. in second place, and Bixby Land Co. in third. Participants also enjoyed a beach party and awards ceremony, and a check was presented to Laura Long, Orange County United Ways director of children and youth development.
