In June, Bolsa Chica Self Storage of Westminster, Calif., received the 2007 Small Business of the Year Award presented by the Westminster Chamber of Commerce. Since the facility’s opening in August 2005, owner Willis Miller has endeavored to give back to the community in which he has done business for more than 50 years.
Since its inception, the storage facility has supported the Westminster Mayor's Ball, a fundraiser benefiting the Rose Center Foundation, a non-profit community volunteer group that operates the city’s Rose Center and Rose Theater. Brad Sublett, Bolsa Chica’s director of operations, serves on the foundation’s board of directors.
Facility manager Jack Wanstreet is part of the chamber’s board of directors. He and his wife, Janet, have served on the committees of numerous chamber events. Chica Bolsa was also a presenting sponsor of the chamber’s 2008 Public Service Awards Luncheon.
In addition, Bolsa Chica has donated to the "Backpacks for Success" program sponsored by the Community Action Partnership of Orange County and provided free storage for local high schools and churches.
During the early years of the business, Miller and Sublett produced an award-winning movie about family-values titled Beautiful Dreamer, set against World War II. It won a total of 13 awards at 10 various film festivals.
