Americans Eye Health Care Reform

Article-Americans Eye Health Care Reform

As Americans continue to struggle with the sinking economy, many eyes are on health care reform and President-elect Barack Obama's plans.

Sixty-four percent of voters expect the new president to "improve the health care system," according to a USA Today/Gallup survey taken right after the election. Yet many understand that overhauling the health care system will take significant time and effort.

A coaliton of several conservative business groups are pushing for change within the first 100 days of the new presidency. In addition, key groups, including hospitals, doctors and consumer advocates, are meeting with congressional staff.

Plus, Obama has tapped former Senate majority leader Tom Daschle for Secretary of Health and Human Services. Daschle, who wrote a book on changing the health system, will also direct a new White House office on health reform.
