XtraSpace Self Storage recently purchased a former Toys R Us building in Durban, South Africa, with the intent on converting it into self-storage. The location will be the companys second in Durban and 17th overall.
XtraSpace opened a multi-story self-storage facility in Durban last year, its first in the KwaZulu-Natal province. XtraSpace Self Storage Berea has been a great success, giving us confidence for the next one, said Colleen Hunter, chief operating officer.
Expected to open in October, the 600-unit Durban North facility is close to King Shaka International Airport. It will include a business center with flexible offices for small companies, a meeting room and hot-desk facilities, a pool of desks that may be occupied as required. It will also offer free WiFi and a courier depot operated by Parceljet Couriers.
XtraSpace Self Storage entered the South African market in 1997. The companys 17-facility portfolio comprises approximately 90,000 square meters of rentable space.
