Westport Properties Inc. (WPI), which operates more than 120 self-storage facilities under the US Storage Centers brand, has opened a National Training Center in San Antonio, Texas, to train its employees. The center offers individual workstations and an area for hands-on training with customers, according to a press release.
“We are very excited about our National Training Center coming online,” said Charles Byerly, president and CEO. “Historically, we’ve used a decentralized training approach to help our people learn and embrace the ‘Westport Way,’ and it has served us well to this point. With the significant amount of supply coming into many of our markets, it becomes even more important to make sure our team is trained and embracing our [philosophy].”
The training curriculum is designed to get new team members up to speed quickly and teach them to provide a consistent customer experience across the US Storage Centers portfolio, Byerly said. The company believes it will result in earning “a disproportionate share of rentals” in its markets, he added.
Founded in 1985 and based in Irvine, Calif., WPI is a real estate investment company that acquires, develops and operates self-storage facilities, and provides third-party management services. Its portfolio comprises more than 9 million rentable square feet in 15 states.
