Emmett Buster Owens III, president of The Rabco Corp., has received a LEED Professional Accreditation through the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI), an entity supported by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Emmett “Buster” Owens III, president of The Rabco Corp., has received a LEED Professional Accreditation through the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI), an entity supported by the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED APs have a thorough understanding of green-building practices and principles as well as the LEED Rating System. Owens’ accreditation includes a specialty in building design and construction.
 
Owens will present a seminar on how green building relates to the self-storage industry at the Inside Self-Storage World Expo in Washington, D.C., Oct. 5-8, 2009. He will address such topics as cool roofs, sustainable energy and optimizing energy designs for climate-controlled buildings.
 
Owens has a building contractor’s license in multiple states including Arizona, California and Florida as well as a roofing contractor’s license in Florida. He is also a managing member of North American Roofing LLC.
 
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a certification program and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. LEED certification provides independent, third-party verification that a project meets the highest green-building and performance measures.
 
GBCI administers credentialing programs related to green-building practice. These programs support the application of proven strategies for increasing and measuring the performance of buildings and communities. More than 40,000 people have completed the programs since they were was launched in 2001.
