Millville Mini Storage LLC received approval last month to add three new self-storage buildings to its 35,432-square-foot property in Millville, Del. The Millville Town Council approved the final site plans for 35101 Atlantic Ave. at its June 12 meeting. The structures will each comprise 2,500 square feet of interior storage space, and will include a center hallway as well as exterior doors on both ends.
Prior to the vote, council members debated about the onsite commercial trash bin, which they had asked to be surrounded by an enclosure during a November preliminary site-plan approval meeting. The plan showed the bin had been moved to a central location so it would instead be surrounded by storage units; however, council members reiterated that the purpose of the request was to prevent trash from escaping and blowing across the property. Though property owner Peter Astorino said the enclosure won’t completely prevent errant trash, he agreed to add a 6-foot-high structure around the bin.
Astorino also acknowledged a suggestion from councilman Steven Small about adding a vegetative barrier to improve the look of the property and to be a “good neighbor.”
The final site plan was approved 4-0. Mayor Robert Gordon recused himself from the vote, as his home is near the storage facility. The storage operator received all other agency approvals, according to the source.
Founded 25 years ago and formerly known as Two Mini Inc., Millville Mini Storage offers climate-controlled units as well as moving and packing supplies. Astorino also owns and operates the Shoppes at Millville, a retail-store complex.
