Real estate firm McGregor Interests Inc. (MII) received approval last week to expand its Lockbox Storage facility in Blair, Neb. The Blair City Council unanimously voted in favor of the conditional-use permit on Sept. 13 for the self-storage property at 240 E. U.S. Highway 30. The planning commission had previously recommended the permit.
MII plans to expand the facility from five to 12 buildings, according to Geoff McGregor, vice president. Some units will be climate-controlled, and an office will be added for a full-time manager. The property will have one entrance controlled by an electronic gate and keypad.
As part of the approval, the council stipulated the entrance and parking areas must be paved. MII is also required to build water-retention basins.
This is the third permit the council has granted for a self-storage project since May. The first was given to Robert Pearson, who plans to build a storage facility with interior units and vehicle parking on a vacant lot on Grant Street.
In August, the council also approved a storage proposal by Kevin and Melissa Wehrli of Marie Gordon Investments LLC. The plans include converting a 4.4-acre retail store to vehicle storage.
MII is a diversified real estate firm that specializes in industrial facilities, self-storage and shopping centers. It operates one Lockbox Storage in Iowa and four in Nebraska.
