Southern Self Storage, which operates 26 facilities in Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Puerto Rico, is hosting a community yard sale at its Valdosta, Ga., facility on May 4 to benefit Camp Lean on Me, a two-day grief camp for children ages 6 to 17 who’ve lost a friend or family member. Donations for the event, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., can be dropped off at 3200 Inner Perimeter Road during office hours through May 3, according to the source.
“Our community is always very generous by donating items for the yard sale and shopping the day of the event,” said property manager Gregory Frier.
Held in October, the camp is sponsored by Hospice of South Georgia & Langdale Hospice House. Volunteer social workers and counselors will help children process feelings of grief and loss, said Sherry Tierney, a hospice bereavement coordinator. Activities will include a balloon release and interactions with clowns and animals. Participants can also create memory boxes to store mementos of their loved ones. Attendees don’t need to be affiliated with hospice to benefit, the source reported.
Founded in 1985, Southern is headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. The company offers self-storage, vehicle storage and boat/RV parking.
