On The Move Inc., a full-service truck-rental company serving the self-storage industry, recently raised $1,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). The company donated $1 to JDRF for every new Facebook like it received during its online fundraising campaign.
Susan Nash, CEO of On The Move, has been particularly passionate about supporting research to find a cure for Type 1 diabetes since her daughter, C.J. Steen, was diagnosed in 1991 at the age of 6. Steen is now the companys marketing director.
JDRF is the largest charitable supporter of Type 1 diabetes research. The organization is currently sponsoring $530 million in scientific research in 17 countries. Last year, it provided more than $110 million to research. More than 80 percent of its expenditures directly support research and research-related education.
On The Move said it will pursue other charitable campaigns through Facebook. The company offers a turnkey rental-truck program including trucks, rental-truck insurance and custom truck graphics for advertising self-storage locations. It also offers a tenant-protection program.
