Apple Self Storage, which operates 36 locations in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Ontario, Canada, served as the drop-off location for the annual Women’s Place Book Riot fundraiser. The 42nd annual used-book sale raised more than $71,000, breaking the previous record of $70,000 set last year. Proceeds from the charity event will benefit Nova House in Niagara Falls, Ontario, and Serenity Place in Welland, Ontario. Both are Women’s Place shelters that support women and children who are victims of domestic violence.
Apple’s Niagara Falls location at 4655 Kent Ave. collected 2,000 boxes filled with books, CDs, games, puzzles and vinyl albums. The items filled 175 tables at the Gale Centre, which hosted the fundraiser, June 5-9. More than 4,000 people attended, according to Amanda Braet, development director for Women’s Place. "We were surprised because of the beautiful weather, and we know Comic Con was going on," she told the source.
The Kent Avenue Apple location will again serve as the drop-off point for next year’s Book Riot. It started collecting items for the event on June 15 and will accept donations until May 4, 2020, the source reported.
Family-owned and -operated, Apple opened its first facility in 1974. Its properties comprise more than 1.2 million square feet of rentable space. The company offers standard and premium storage units, mailbox rental, package acceptance, hold-key service, and packing and moving supplies.
